Description: Subadult lion with a fierce expression while standing next to a wildebeest kill.
Story from behind the lens: It was a glorious morning with the sun risen over the horizon when we came across a scene of complete mayhem. The lionesses of the Moniko pride had managed to make two wildebeest kills, 100 metres from each other. The lionesses and cubs were busy either eating, snoozing or keeping an eye out for pesky hyenas and black-backed jackals. 4 black-backed jackals were taking every opportunity to snag any scraps they could while constantly barking at each other. The hyenas slowly inched closer and closer to the carcasses, and one managed to grab the spine, tail and skin of one the wildebeests when they were chased away by the lionesses.
In the meantime, while ignoring the drama happening around it, this sub-adult cub was peacefully having its share of the other wildebeest, though it did take a few seconds to warn us to stay away. This is when I managed to catch its serious expression on camera.
