Description: A jackal picks the bones of a recent lion kill while keeping a sharp eye out for the larger predators who still lurked nearby.

Story from behind the lens: A pride of lions took down a wildebeest during the night. I arrived at the scene at sunrise when there were slim pickings left. A lone jackal dared to approach the abandoned rib cage at a distance from the pride that still lingered in the area. He picked at the bones while keeping a sharp eye out for the lions who could easily harm him. I took the image from my doors- off safari vehicle at a distance so as not to change the behavior of the scene. I was shooting from the jeep floor with my lens mounted on a tripod opened with legs flat.
