Description: 3 different clans of hyenas, all came together, stealing a buffalo from a lone lioness. The noises made are engraved in my head forever, as if they hyenas were as happy as a Larry!
Story from behind the lens: A lone lioness had killed a buffalo and dragged it up a hill. She was still exhausted from the kill, so she waited to eat it patiently.
During this wait, a clan of hyenas arrived! She was ready to fight! She charged at them, scaring them off temporarily; as she began to eat!
Then suddenly the hyenas started sharing the buffalo with this lioness! What a rare occurrence! It’s was genuinely surreal!
Later on, another clan of hyenas arrived. It was amazing! The lioness launched herself at the hyenas, a sighting I will never forget!
Eventually, a third clan arrived, and the lioness left her food, as it got too hectic! With around 3/4 of the hyena population in the Maasai Mara National Reserve at this kill, they could easily have killed the lioness, so she gave her food up!
A sight I will never forget, and the sounds will be engrained in my brain forever!
