Description: Solitary Topi stands in the golden grasses of the Mara

Story from behind the lens: We were following four lionesses as they made their way through the high grass of late June in the Mara Triangle. The herds were yet to arrive and keeping eyes on predators was proving difficult. They would move in and out of view, disappearing within the golden sea of grass, and then reappearing moments later. During one such disappearance, I noticed this Topi in the distance and I was awed by the colours in the the tapestry of sky, escarpment, and rolling hills behind him. The topi was unmoved by, or merely unaware, of the danger encroaching and the lionesses did not make their way towards him this day.
