Description: Headshot of a red-tailed monkey.
Story from behind the lens: It's difficult to look at any primate portrait without thinking of our shared ancestory. This black and white portrait of a red tailed monkey also evokes the imagery of film negatives.
On a morning game drive we were headed to a sighting of mating lions. On our way we lingered with a group of red-tailed monkeys we came upon. While monkeys may not seem as exciting as lions, one thing I tried to do on this safari was take advantage of any wildlife sighting when it presented itself rather than having a prescribed agenda. As it turned out, I was never close to a group of primates on the remainder of the safari so I'm glad we took some time with them.
