Description: One of the Black Rock Boys, Olobor
Story from behind the lens: One of my favorite memories from our trip to the Masai Mara was how I got this picture. About ten safari vehicles were trying to see this Black Rock Boy, Olobor. However, for us, it was on the other side of a very deep & muddy waterway. It was the beginning of the rainy season, and skilled drivers had to navigate slippery and treacherous roads. The only way to the other side was to follow the road that went right past this gorgeous male lion. So our driver/guide extraordinaire, Moses, was the first to make the crossing. The lion was completely unfazed and even yawned as we were crossing. Because Moses was always looking for opportunities for us, he paused on the crossing so I could get a few shots before reaching the other side. These extreme low angle shots are what a photographer wants! Moses seriously has some mad driving skills!! After we made a successful crossing, several other vehicles followed his lead. Keep in mind several had waited quite a while to make the decision whether or not their were going to attempt it.
