Description: A young hyena pleads for a feed from the remains of a recent kill

Story from behind the lens: My guide had information regarding a recent zebra kill. We headed to the area to be dumbfounded by the amazing scene that was unfolding before our eyes. Hyenas were coming from all directions to feed on the zebra carcass. With two rival clans of hyenas vying for possession, the atmosphere was electric. After a few moments of ferocious fighting, the animals seem to agree a status quo, and all joined in for the feast. In a very short time, all that was left of the zebra was the head. A senior member picked it up and walked away with it, only to be met by a very brave youngster. I trained my 300mm lens onto the scene to capture the moment. The outcome could have gone either way, but the huge male succumbed to the infant, allowing him to take his share.
