Description: Hyena mother and cub relaxing at sunset

Story from behind the lens: Sunsets are magical. One evening we went to observe hyenas as part of our data collection purposes as volunteers. It was just before sun went down and we found this mom and cub getting out of the burrow with other hyenas to catch the last rays of the soft, glowing sun. Mom was enjoying herself but the cub was very shy and kept on going back to its burrow .We sat quietly and patiently waited them to feel safe to relax and carry on. That’s when I took this picture. I like hyenas, for their social behavior which is very intricate and interesting. I like to take pictures of them to show how they have their own beauty although they have a reputation of being savage, ugly creatures. I hope to change people’s minds about that through pictures like this.
