Description: Two giraffes onlooking their fallen friend

Story from behind the lens: We came across the scene of the fallen giraffe being eaten hyenas when morning light was coming up at the beginning of our game drive. Our guide informed us that the giraffe seemed to of died from natural causes. As our day was ending we took the same way back to camp after having an eventful day in the Mara. However, on the way back the scene of the fall giraffe had changed. Onlooking the fallen giraffe were about 20 other giraffes just watching or being close by to the fallen one. It was an incredibly sad and somber moment as it seemed like they were all mourning the one who passed away. It was a scene I've never seen before in the Mara, and one that definitely reminds us that these animals all feel some sort of emotions like us.
