Description: A buffalo and lion battle for survival in a ravine.

Story from behind the lens: It was our last morning in the Masai Mara when we were in the presence of a huge pride of 20 lions. They had 12 small cubs with them, which I’ve never seen before. They looked like they were on their morning movement and passed a heard of buffalo, apparently showing no interest in a potential meal. But suddenly, we heard a ruckus in the ravine and there was a lone buffalo the pride came across by surprise! Being opportunistic predators, the lions went for the buffalo. But the buffalo put on a fight for its life and ran into the water, knowing this was where he had the best chance of survival. A female lion took her chances and jumped on the buffalo to try and take it down in the water. But the buffalo had the advantage and swung around, chasing the lion away for the moment. It was a tough scene to witness. But both species were trying to survive: the buffalo wanted to live, and the pride needed to eat.
