Description: Four female lions rest on a hill with purple clouds in the background
Story from behind the lens: It was our first afternoon in the Mara and you could see these epic clouds forming in the distance of the vast landscape. A big storm was coming. As the afternoon progressed to the evening, we found a pride of lions resting on the plains. This was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the dark skies. Our guide, Wilson, found four female lions resting on a little hill, and positioned us so that we were lower than they were. I lowered my camera as close to the ground as I could, to get the feel that you are resting with the pride. In that moment, there was a feel of calm, before the storm. A stillness. Then the winds shifted – the storm was coming.
