Description: A troop of banded mongooses with one of them playing leader/sentry.

Story from behind the lens: Having patiently tried over years to get a coherent shot of these small mammals scurrying around, I finally came across this troop that gave me an opportunity. As usual they were shy and moving around quickly. But for a moment there was a bit of order and I was able to grab this shot by lying low in the vehicle when only one of them was standing above the rest of the troop. Given how rare they are photographed and published, I decided to give them a chance through this entry!
