Description: Giraffe & calf captured in the false dawn close to Kicheche Mara camp
Story from behind the lens: This was taken on my first morning staying at Kicheche Mara Camp in Mara North conservancy. The situation of the camp is perfect for sunrise photography if everything aligns as it did this morning, because as you come out of camp you have a ridge so if any animal is on the horizon you have uninterrupted views apart of the odd acacia tree.
When we came out of camp I couldn’t believe our luck that we had a giraffe mother & baby on the horizon. This was something I had never seen before at sunrise, so we stayed with them from this point in the false dawn before the sun had risen. I liked the simplicity of this image, just them, the acacia tree & a couple of wildebeest grazing. A truly magical morning.
