Description: Giraffe mother & baby captured during the fall dawn in Mara North conservancy

Story from behind the lens: This was taken on my first morning staying at Kicheche Mara Camp in Mara North conservancy. The location of the camp is perfect for sunrise photography if everything aligns as it did this morning, because as you come out of camp there is a ridge so if any animal is on the horizon you have uninterrupted views apart of the odd acacia tree.

So when we came out of camp I couldn’t believe our luck to see a giraffe mother & baby on the horizon. In 12 years of coming to Africa this was something I had never seen before at sunrise. Consequently we stayed with them from this point in the false dawn when there were still stars in the sky, till the moment the sun had risen. A truly magical morning.
