Description: Mother and baby eland with two jackal

Story from behind the lens: We were out on an early morning drive and came across a newborn baby eland, fur still wet from being born, with its mother. As we settled in to watch the newborn two black backed jackal had picked up the trail and sensed a possible meal. Each time one jackal would distract the mother, the other would circle around and try and get to the baby before the mother returned. Thankfully the mother was up to the challenge and managed to repeatedly drive the jackal off until she was able to lead her baby away to safety.
