Description: Its distinct prehistoric appearance, marked by its thick, armor-like hide and characteristic horns, reflects a lineage that has navigated countless ecological shifts.

Story from behind the lens: We went on a hunch on an early morning drive with my guide Ann, as we had seen a lioness in full on hunting mode the previous evening on our way back to camp and we set our looking for her in the morning as there were a lot prey that night. But to our disappointment, we didn’t find her where we left her or anywhere close. We then headed towards some topi to get some silhouette shots as the sun rose over the horizon, but little did we know we were in for a surprise when a black rhino came over the horizon, giving us the perfect opportunity to capture him against the crimson kissed burnt savanna landscape that now resembled Mars. I felt heavily captivated by the scene right in front of us, one of adversity and resilience.
