Story from behind the lens: We were are an afternoon drive and spotted a small group of giraffe. As we drove closer we saw a newborn calf on the ground by its mother struggling to get up. We missed the birth by about 10 minutes. We spent a long while watching the interactions between the mother and calf with the mother helping the calf to stand and the calf taking its first steps. My image shows the shy calf peeking over the head of its mother while she gives the calf its first bath.
