Description: Male lion with one blind eye
Story from behind the lens: Shortly after sunrise, we came upon a pride who had successfully killed a wildebeest overnight. The male was finishing the remains of the carcass when some hyenas on the horizon got his attention. Sitting up to survey the landscape, he shifted his focus in our direction just long enough for me to get in close and photograph the intense stare that you only get with male lions. The discolored and blinded left eye of this male was an image that I wanted to capture because it serves as powerful reminder of the battles that these kings endure on a daily basis in the Mara.
