Description: An adult male lion stares into the camera while eating the flesh off of a wildebeest spine.

Story from behind the lens: Shortly after departing Kicheche Bush Camp for our morning game drive, Patrick, our guide, spotted a pride of lions moving with purpose across the savannah. Following them in hot pursuit, we were led to a multi-species scene. A wildebeest carcass had become the site of a feeding frenzy–jackals, hyenas, and vultures swarming what scraps remained of the body. Predictably, the lions quickly asserted their dominance over the meal, scaring away the scavengers easily. This lion sat down with the spine, enjoying his breakfast.
