Description: Young lions using a plastic water bottle as a toy

Story from behind the lens: As a world-renowned wildlife reserve, the Maasai Mara needs our protection. While we are becoming diligent in recycling, we are often failing to address ‘prevention’ rather than ‘cure’. While I watched two young cubs from the Fig Tree pride tussle over a plastic water bottle in a game, I felt frustrated that there was nothing I could do. It was my dawning moment that the preservation of the Maasai Mara is not a game, and as a tourist, there is actually so much I can do. Simply by using refillable drink bottles in the vehicles used for game driving, the amount of plastic potentially impacting the Mara reduces. We all have a part to play protecting this amazing reserve for generations to come.
