Description: A feisty subadult lioness takes a swat at the alpha male of her pride in an effort to get access to the remains of a carcass.

Story from behind the lens: When I arrived, an alpha male was in full possession of the remains of a carcass from a kill made the night before. The smaller members of the pride could only watch until he began to backed off. The moment he did several moved in to feed. Their quick response seemed to make him change his mind. He moved back towards the kill but was met by a swat on the nose by one who dared to stand up to him. I got the shot from the floor of my safari vehicle, doors off. My tripod was set up with the legs flat for the low angle.
