Description: A group of 5 lions surveys the landscape from atop a termite mound in the early morning sunlight.

Story from behind the lens: This image reminds me of Sun Tzu's quote from the Art of War. "He who occupies the high ground... will fight to advantage." Each of these 5 lionesses gradually took their place on the high ground of this termite mound. Dominating the landscape each one scanned a different quadrant of the horizon for prey. It was strategic, efficient, patient and ruthless behaviour. This shared hunting strategy also helped the lion in the foreground who is missing her left eye. On her own she would be at a great disadvantage. Working like this with the others in the pride she was able to contribute to the hunt, share in the rewards and overcome the disadvantage of her injury.
