Description: During an early morning outing, this male lion crossed an open field and was haloed by the rising sun.
Story from behind the lens: This adult male and a subadult male were rejoining the pride from a distance, so we had many chances to obtain 'incoming' shots. Although not backlit, I was struck by the halo of light surrounding his head. To emphasize the sunlit hair, I converted the image to B&W and darkened it to eliminate distractions. Eventually, the entire herd moved toward the river, where they cornered and eventually killed a Cape Buffalo.
