Description: A lion licks its wounds after loosing a fight for the right to mate with a lioness and then enduring a thirty-minute rainstorm.

Story from behind the lens: While following a female lion in our safari vehicle, we watched as she approached two males. It began to rain very hard and we were unable to see what was happening through the rainfall. All we could hear were the sounds of the two males fighting for for the right to mate with the female lion. The male that lost lay in the downpour for about thirty minutes waiting for the rain to stop. When he stood up, he began to lick his wounds from the fight.
