Description: Zebra's final moments
Story from behind the lens: The great migration more than often stirs up much excitement and anticipation in witnessing the massive herds of wildebeest and zebra crossing over from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara. Understanding that these animals have traveled many miles to reach the Mara river - for some to get so far and not make it across, is not always easy to watch.
We experienced such a scene. Having waited for a couple of days to see a crossing, we finally managed to witness a large herd of Zebra cross the river. There was plenty of action between the crocodiles and zebras during the crossing. But my attention was instantly drawn to a young zebra who despite its earnest efforts to evade the crocs snapping jaws, was finally caught. As the little one stood still, waiting for the inevitable to happen... another croc approached it and gently nudged its head. Who knows what he's last thoughts were... only that this is how nature operates and who are we to question it.
