Description: Three young jackal siblings

Story from behind the lens: On our way back to camp one afternoon we spotted a very young jackal pup (probably just a month old) running into a hole in the base of a tree on the side of the track. We pulled up, turned off the jeep's engine and waited. Eventually we saw some eyes deep in the hole in the tree and then a few minutes later a very young jackal pup cautiously ventured out. We continued to wait quietly and patiently and soon another two very young jackal pups appeared. They became used to our presence and started playing on the grass at the side of the tree. I took many photos of them but one of the ones I particularly liked is this image of the three of them together, it reminded me of family photos when you say, "all look at the camera now" and one in the group always looks away.
