Description: Dominant male leopard takes down an adult wildebeest on the banks of the Mara River
Story from behind the lens: While watching a large herd of wildebeest cross towards the Mara Triangle at Maji Chafu we suddenly heard a collective gasp from people watching from the other side of the river with shouts of "lion, lion." Those animals yet to cross ran back up the bank and we were left wondering what had occurred down on the river bank. Suddenly, a large male leopard emerged through up a steep gulley dragging his well-earned meal. Just before reaching a thicket, he took a breath and stared straight down my lens. Using a shallow depth of field I was able to isolate the leopard and his kill from the grassy bank background and place the focus on his intense stare.
