Description: Crocodile Grabs Wildebeest
Story from behind the lens: We arrived to the Wildebeest river crossing the Mara River a bit late to get a position to see the last of the animals swimming across. But what we did witness was breathtakingly spectacular. One Wildebeest was grabbed by a crocodile. The Wildebeest was dragged under the water; he fought to stand up. He was taken under again. The conflict lasted about 15 minutes...we were screaming in the truck. Finally, as the Wildebeest was up on the bank, the croc tried to reposition for a better grip, and the Wildebeest got away, but wounded with an uncertain future. I love the textures of the image in black and white: the rough rock, the gnarly croc, the smooth Wildebeest, and the shimmering water.
